Integration Scenarios
Integration Scenarios are task-focused guides that walk through building a specific baseball feature end to end: which feeds to call, in what order, and how to handle the edge cases. Each one assumes the vocabulary in Fundamentals and the request basics in API Basics.
If you are not sure where to start, use the matrix below.
The Scenarios
| Scenario | What you build |
|---|---|
| Pulling Schedules and Results | Schedule pages and results stores, and the season and game IDs that drive every other feed |
| Tracking Live Games | Live scoreboards and pitch-level gamecasts, from first pitch to the final out |
| Tracking Standings | Division, league, and pool tables, ties and qualification markers, and cup brackets |
| Retrieving Team and Player Details | Team pages, rosters, player pages, box scores, and starting lineups |
| Monitoring Data Changes | Incremental sync driven by the change feeds, with removals and ID mappings handled |
The Tracking Win Probabilities guide covers the add-on Probabilities package: pre-match and in-play win percentages, probability timelines, and season outrights.
Three cross-cutting references support all of these: Game Status Workflow (status semantics), Update Frequencies (polling cadence), and ID Handling (the identifier model). For past seasons, see Retrieving Historical Data.
Where to Start by Use Case
| If you are building... | Start with | Then add |
|---|---|---|
| A scores app or gamecast | Tracking Live Games | Pulling Schedules and Results, Tracking Win Probabilities |
| A schedule and results site | Pulling Schedules and Results | Tracking Standings, Monitoring Data Changes |
| Standings and race trackers | Tracking Standings | Monitoring Data Changes |
| Team, player, or fantasy products | Retrieving Team and Player Details | Pulling Schedules and Results, Monitoring Data Changes |
| Probability displays and charts | Tracking Win Probabilities | Tracking Live Games |
| Historical research | Retrieving Historical Data | Pulling Schedules and Results, Retrieving Team and Player Details |
| Efficient data sync | Monitoring Data Changes | The refresh strategy section of each scenario you use |
Before You Build
- Resolve your competition and season IDs first (Competitions, then Competition Seasons); every scenario keys on them. See Pulling Schedules and Results.
- Read Fundamentals for the three-part summary shape and the status model; every feed reuses them.
- Check each season's coverage block before committing to features: play-by-play, live standings, brackets, and squads vary by competition.
- Size your polling from the per-feed chart on Update Frequencies, and remember a short TTL is not a polling recommendation.
- All dates and timestamps are UTC; a US evening game lands on the following UTC date.
