NHL Failover

In rare instances it may be necessary to fail over from official on-venue NHL data collection to Sportradar's in-house data collection. Failover provides redundancy for the NHL API: if the official data source experiences a technical issue, in-house coverage keeps live data flowing, and official NHL data is reconciled after the conclusion of the game.

How Failover Works

• Before a game: If an issue is identified prior to the start of a game, in-house data collection covers the game from the opening faceoff.

• During a game: If an issue arises in-game, it is evaluated for approximately 10 minutes. If the issue is resolved within that window, no failover occurs. If the issue persists, or it becomes clear that it will not be resolved quickly, coverage switches to in-house data collection for the remainder of the game.

• After a game: When official NHL data becomes available, typically shortly after the conclusion of the game, all plays are regenerated and statistics are reconciled with the official data. If official data is not yet available when the game ends, the game is closed with in-house data and reconciled once the official data is received.
