Historical Data

Learn how to access Sportradar's historical NASCAR statistics.

Data Availability

Sportradar’s NASCAR API provides historical data for the NASCAR Cup Series, Craftsman Truck Series, and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series beginning with the 2012 season.

Use the Seasons endpoint to determine available seasons before requesting data from other feeds.


Data Updates

Sportradar continuously enhances its NASCAR datasets. As a result, some statistics may not be available for earlier seasons or older API versions.

When new data points are introduced, they are generally available only in the current API version from that point forward and are not backfilled into historical data. Refer to the NASCAR Change Log for details on newly added fields and updates.


Data Accessibility

Historical NASCAR statistics are available within the NASCAR API. There is no separate API or add-on package at this time.

Any NASCAR API feed that supports the season_year parameter can be used to retrieve historical data.

Driver Stats

To retrieve past driver statistics, call the Driver Statistics feed using the season_year. The following example shows a snippet of career driver statistics for drivers that raced in the 2015 NASCAR Cup Series.

The Driver Statistics feed returns season-level statistics for all drivers who participated in a given series and season. Results are grouped by driver and include performance breakdowns such as track type splits, starts, wins, laps led, and finishing averages.

How to retrieve stats for a specific driver across seasons

To retrieve statistics for a specific driver or across multiple seasons, your application should filter and aggregate results client-side.

  1. Call the Seasons feed to identify the available seasons for the desired series.
  2. Request the Driver Statistics feed for each season you want to analyze.
  3. Check for the presence of the driver’s driver.id in each season’s response. If the driver does not appear, they did not participate in that season and no statistics are available.
  4. Filter the response by driver.id for seasons where the driver is present.
  5. Aggregate the season-level results in your application to compare performance across multiple seasons.

Standings

We provide dedicated standings feeds for Drivers, Manufacturers, Owners, and Rookies. You can access historical data from these feeds using the season_year. The following examples show 2021 standings.

Historical Stats by Race

To retrieve historical race statistics we'll want to access the leaderboard and starting grid feeds. Depending on your use case, you may want the Race Leaderboard, Practice Leaderboard, Qualifying Leaderboard, or Starting Grid feeds.

Let's say we want to retrieve race statistics for the entire 2021 NASCAR Cup Series. For this, we'll need to parse the Race Leaderboard feed.

To build this request, we will need the unique race.id for each race in the 2021 season, which we can locate in the Schedule and Playoff Schedule (for playoff races) feed.

Use the Schedule feeds to discover session timing and race IDs, and use the leaderboard feeds for session results.

Use each race.id instance in the 2021 Schedule to retrieve the individual Race Leaderboard statistics for every race in that season.

Use this same retrieval method for all NASCAR seasons and series, and interchange the leaderboard or starting grid feeds as necessary depending on your needs.
