Synergy Basketball API – Advanced Endpoint Package

We’ve expanded our Synergy Basketball API with a new set of advanced endpoints designed to power deeper analysis, smarter comparisons, and more forward-looking basketball insights.

Advanced features provide context-adjusted, predictive analytics that go beyond box scores, including Shot Quality, Offensive Player Roles, Player Comps, Adjusted Team Stats, Player Projections, and Player Impact metrics. Some outputs rely on a Stat Comparison Group to ensure results are normalized within the appropriate league or competition.

The advanced endpoints are available in all leagues covered in the Synergy Basketball API. Reach out to our support team or your account representative for trial access.

🧠 Player Roles

Classifies players into one primary offensive role based on usage patterns and Synergy play-type data.

  • Assigns one primary offensive role using Synergy play-type and usage data
  • Covers 11 core offensive roles (e.g., playmaking ball handler, spot-up wing, rim-finishing big)
  • Role assignments are data-driven, not position-based.
  • Enables role-normalized comparisons across players.

Outputs:

  • Player
  • Offensive Role

🔍 Player Comparables

Identifies statistically similar players using a composite similarity model.

  • Similarity scoring based on volume, play style, and efficiency
  • Supports:
    • In-league comps
    • Transfer-specific comps
  • Cross-level comps (e.g., college → NBA “role model”)
  • Returns ranked comparable players with similarity scores
  • Requires a minimum data threshold to generate valid comps.
  • Primary output fields:
    • Player Comp
    • Similarity Score

📊 Team Adjusted Stats

Produces context-adjusted team performance metrics.

  • Adjustments applied for:
    • Strength of opponent
    • Game location (home / away)
    • Rest and travel schedule
    • Garbage-time possessions
    • Recent performance weighting
  • Designed for forward-looking evaluation, not raw results.
  • Required input:
    • Stat Comparison Group
  • Outputs include adjusted efficient metrics such as:
    • PPP, FG%, eFG%
    • Shot Quality
    • 3PT%, TO%, FT%

🔮 Player Projections

Generates forward-looking per-game player predictions.

  • Updates daily as new data becomes available
  • Combines historical performance, recent trends, and role-based context
  • Outputs include:
    • Box score stats (points, rebounds, assists, etc.)
    • Usage and minute expectations
    • Efficiency projections
  • Projection logic blends:
    • Historical performance
    • Recent trends
    • Contextual and role-based signals
  • Primary output fields:
    • Projected per-game stats

📈 Player Impact Stats

An all-in-one adjusted plus-minus metric capturing on-court impact.

  • Measures whether a team outperforms opponents while the player is on the floor.
  • Controls for teammates, opponents, and lineup context
  • Captures non-box score contributions
  • Requires a Stat Comparison Group
  • Outputs:
    • Games Played, Total Possessions
    • Offensive Impact, Defensive Impact
    • Wins Added

🧩 Stat Comparison Groups

Returns stat comparison groups for a specified league.

  • Defines the league-specific comparison population
  • Required for:
    • Adjusted Team Stats
    • Player Impact Stat
  • Includes:
    • StatComparisonGroupID
    • Comparison Group Name
    • League

🎯 Shot Quality (SSQ) Now in Events

Shot Quality data is now available within the Events endpoints, including season-level aggregates.

  • Quantifies the likelihood a league-average shooter makes a shot given identical context
  • Built from defender proximity, shot type, location, movement, play type, and more
  • Normalized to isolate shot quality independent of shooter skill
  • Includes:
    • Shot Quality value
    • Shot Quality level: High (Good Looks), Medium, Low (Bad Looks)

These new Synergy endpoints unlock richer context, clearer comparisons, and more predictive basketball insights—whether you’re building scouting tools, analytical products, or advanced fan experiences.
