# Playoffs and Tournaments

This scenario covers the G League's two championship structures: the April playoffs, addressed as linked series, and the Showcase Cup, the season-opening tournament that resolves in its own championship game.

In the 2025-26 postseason, the first three rounds (first round, conference semifinals, conference finals) were **single elimination**: one game decides the series. The **Finals are best of three**. The playoff schedule titles games accordingly: every single-elimination game is `Game 1`, and the Finals carry `Game 2` and `Game 3 (if necessary)` entries. Postseason and tournament formats can change from season to season, so read each season's structure from Series Schedule rather than assuming it.

Reading a series:

* `round` places the series in the bracket, and `title` names it
* Each participant carries its `seed`, its `record` (games won in this series), and the `team` object
* A participant's `source` names the series it arrived from, with the `outcome` that sent it here: follow `source.id` (and the series' own `parent_id`) to wire the bracket round to round
* `status` reads `closed` once the series is decided

The game entries are reduced to their core fields here. Note the second entry's status: a series game that is not required finalizes as **`unnecessary`**, with no score. Handle it as a first-class status: render it as "if necessary" while the series is live, then drop or gray it once it resolves.

### 3. Pull series-level statistics

<Anchor label="Series Statistics" target="_blank" href="ref:g-league-series-statistics">Series Statistics</Anchor> takes a series ID and a team ID and returns that team's aggregate record across the series: `own_record` (with `total` and `average` blocks), `opponents`, and per-player aggregates. The champion's Finals line, reduced to a selection of fields and the leading scorer:

### 4. Cover the Showcase Cup

The Showcase Cup opens the season as its own season type (`SC`), with its own [standings table](https://developer.sportradar.com/basketball/docs/g-league-ig-standings-rankings-retrieval), and resolves in the **Showcase Cup Championship**, a separate one-game season type (`SCC`). The complete 2025 `SCC` schedule is a single game:
